For those looking to resizing and reorder windows and applications on their Mac SizeUp by Irradiated software is a great application for you. SizeUp uses the control, option, command, arrow, and option keys to resize and reorder Windows. You can split screens, quarter them, and move applications/windows between Spaces as well as between multiple monitors. All of the keyboard shortcuts are customizable to your heart’s content. You can set the screen edge margins as well as the partitions between Windows margins if you desire for better control.
The application is lightweight and you won’t notice the application as it starts up with your Mac. Honestly, I use many of OS-X’s keyboard shortcuts in my daily life, but did not find myself really using this application. SizeUp is a keyboard junkie’s dream and I guess that this is more a case that this application simply does not strike my fancy. I have mixed feelings about this application because while it is a good application and does the job, I just did not use it very much. I ended up using the menu bar shortcuts more than the keyboard shortcuts. While this is nice I found Irradiated Software’s Nince software to be much more intuitive dragging the windows back and forth as I worked.
If you are in the business of constantly having to resize and view data across multiple windows and spaces I suggest you give this application a try. If you don’t rely on the keyboard so much I suggest passing up this application for Cinch because it has a more tangible feel to it in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with application and I find no fault with it, but I just did not use it as much as I anticipated. If anything would have to be improved before I really recommend this would be that I would want a little bit of a more refined interface that made identifying what each shortcut did a little bit easier. When you first start up the application you feel like you purchased 800 TV channels, but possess no TV guide to help you get started. You have plenty of choice, but don’t really know where to start.
